A-Net has had 4 months to work on another solid update and now there is talk of no update this month. Fix some pvp for once FFS, God knows HB could use it.

So much for promises made by them.

I second this. PvP needs an update. A big one. PvE had their big new content update, now fix things that have needed fixing for months.

The packs aren't worth the grind. Some of the other stuff was okay, but I haven't played in a couple of months now and don't really feel any desire to currently.

I mean really, THAT MUCH? Hell, I'd be confused if they had made it more than $5, but $15 and $10? What a joke.
You think that's a joke? Check out how much they charge just for this.

The August update is *rumored* to be a PvP love update, but the ridiculously fck'ing sad part is that no one knows because Anet has told us nothing. Seriously.....this is getting old.

I can't believe that people still whine about a $10/15 character do-over. If you don't like it, then don't use it. Most games charge a stupid amount of money to do minor changes, especially name changes.

I think that the update was good, but in some ways really incredibly late. I don't understand why ArenaNet decided to wait four years to implement a "pet stable". By this time, Beastmaster builds are nerfed over and over making the idea of collecting pets mostly something for high-level characters to do out of boredom.

Zaishen quests and such are fun for a while, but you can tell that anybody that does them over time gets really bored of them pretty quick. It doesn't seem like many people do them out of fun, but they just want the z-coin reward since they can turn into an equipment pack. As the market slowly gets its fill of equipment packs, it's going to turn into another unused feature.

I didn't mind the Nicholas the Traveler so much until this week. The skale farm is so boring and tedious that I wonder if ArenaNet did it as some kind of social experiment, like trying to see how much people are willing to grind.

In the long run, I think the update has been ok. Nicholas is still fun (both of them), the Menagerie has lost it's touch but it is still useful here and there. And the Zquests, well they are now just there for an extra reason to get Legendary Guardian. And when I feel like Vanquishing, grabbing an explorable bounty is worth it.

There has been some talk. But not anything more than "PvP love" and that HB will get looked at. Both stated by Linsey.

The bolded bit is, IMO, a good thing. Microtransactions should be for things that are a necessity to play the game on a level playing field.

The option is there after several years of the ANet line being that they didn't think it was important to enjoy the game. Now its up to each player to decide whether it's important enough to pay for. The majority are probably saying 'no', but there are probably enough that aren't for it to have been worth the effort.

(I do think ANet possibly made a miscalculation with the extra storage tabs costing as much as extra characters (ie mules), though. Rather than making claims about the extra convenience making up for it, they possibly should have offered two tabs for $10 instead of one.)

Not to mention changing servers...

One of the reasons behind the high prices is that the lower the price, the higher the proportion of the sale goes into overhead. However, this could be worked around by offering things in bundles.

This is a little proof that pvp needs some love. Many top Hero battlers agree :P

Don't know if fixing PvP in a 4+ year old game is worth the pain. But, GW1 PvP must be the biggest lessons learned for ANET to incorporate in GW2. They can't fubar that. With GW1, expectations on PvP were not built up. So, people liked what they saw initially. In GW2, its going to be a whole different story.

That said, PvP definitely can use some updates. But, will that bring players back in the game? Highly doubtful. I think, in reality, GW community just needs a small break from GW. The grind got introduced in GW because of public demand of sticking w/ the game.

So, the best approach for ANET right now is to ignore our usual QQ and thereby stopping any further WOWfication of GW. That way ANET will be able to spend more time in thinking about new creative ideas that will shake the foundation of conventional wisdom in online gaming world.

Hence. long term option for ANET is to stay put on GW.

Hahaha, Think of it this way, they're showing us how good the updates for GW2 will be when something's broken. As of right now, broken game doesn't motivate me another to-be-broken game

Nicholas and the Big Z's are ideas along the right path, but the ultimate problem is that they just encourage more solo farming. The Z-missions are a bit better for encouraging groups, but the bounties and Nicholas's gifts (especially the items for the gifts) are solo-farmable. Overall, I'd rank it more of a success than the ludicrousness of the Underworld, at least.

The shop options aren't really big deals. 99% of the players may not ever buy them, but at least it shuts up the whiners who want to change their character's name but don't want to lose their work. For the minimal amount of effort required to implement these options and their non-intrusiveness to the rest of the game, I'd call it a success. A small one, sure, but it couldn't really go wrong. Guild Wars has not become a game for the rich.

For the other updates: I love having more storage, including the new equipment packs, but I don't care too much about the account-Hall bit or the Zaishen Menagerie.

Overall, I'd say it was a good update. Not one that was worth holding up other updates, but a good one nonetheless.

Actully, on the topic of Zquests, I always thought it would be useful to implement a 4th "Zaishen Vanquish" flag. Would be intresting to see more vanquishing pugs.

Everyone will buy GW2 as soon as one reads good reviews about it even if GW1 is left completely broken. And that same person will see GW2 being broken within a year or two of its release. And that person again will hope for fixes of GW2 while waiting for GW3 or a new expansion. Its the lifecycle of a game and QQing is our birthright.

1. Zaishen quests, bounties, and battles rewarding z-coins
I've only recently begun doing these but I enjoy them quite a bit. It's made getting into PUGs for some usually empty missions a lot easier. It's also helping me along with my Guardian titles. Plus, extra cash and junk.

2. Zaishen menagerie
I have never really bothered with pets too much as my main is an ele. It's made me more interested in capping pets, though.

3. Makeover and Extreme Makeover Credits for purchase
I've not used this but I think it's a good idea. I can't tell you how many times I've read posts here and there about wanting this added. I've been thinking about updating my ele a bit as I've played her the most and would like to change some minor things.

4. Name changes for purchase
In the past, when I've gotten tired of a char's name, I've deleted them. I haven't used this yet, either, but it's nice to have the option instead of deleting.

5. Free in-game storage tab, with the option to buy more tabs.
Love, love, love this. Awesome idea, Anet!

6. Nicholas the Traveler and his gifts
Nic has taken me to places that I haven't been in a very long time. I love the gifts even if most people think they're "crap". I wouldn't have hardly anything points in my party or sweets titles without him. Also, I got a mini brown rabbit that I think is the most cutest thing ever.

7. Account-wide Hall of Monuments setting
Brilliant idea, to me, as well. I, obviously, have the most titles on my main so it's awesome to be able to see some of those accomplishments across all of my characters.

8. Cheap 5-slot equipment pack, with the option to earn others
Love this, as well.

I was very excited about the update when I read about it. I haven't utilized everything added just yet but I can see myself doing so and I'm glad that I have the option. I commend Anet on their hard work. 9/10

Not necessarily. I like to think that I'll end up buying GW2, but I have a large number of friends that wont be. They're gone. And by gone, I mean off the forums, off wiki, off PvX, off GW entirely. They got fed up and they're done.

And....to be honest, I get closer and closer to being done.
  • PvX is a wasteland because there haven't been skill updates in so long, there's no reason for people to make or alter builds.
  • Guru is getting depressing (hell, even people who used to defend Anet are getting pissed and mods are letting people get away with saying some serious shit to Anet employees).
  • And the wiki has lost a ton of activity too. With the wiki's new feedback forum, people aren't even going to be able to talk to the devs anymore....not that they ever respond anyway.

Basically, it comes down to this....the day I quit all of those sites + GW, is the same day that there's no hope of me buying GW2. There are just too many other games out there and Anet has pissed me off too many times.

fanboy talking here, so all the cynics can disregard.

So far, I've bought:

Makeover pack with 5 credits

Zaishen Menagerie unlock (finally can get any pet I want, any color, any evolution, without grinding to level 20. yeah!)

Storage upgrade (total whim purchase, couldn't be bothered to move stuff around and said "screw it, I'm buying an extra pane!")

I love the zquests, not so much for the equipment packs (although those are nice), but because now Hard Mode missions are easy to find groups for.

I'm slowly working my way to Guardian, all thanks to this update, so the long term effects are very real.

We'll see after everyone gets there 20 slot pack whether the missions stay full or not. ArenaNet may have to add some new items to be purchasable by z-coins.

I also want to add I love the Traveler. It's like getting 5 birthday presents every week, you never know what you're going to get!

And when all the reviews come out saying how great GW2 is, we will see you and all your friends there. Talk is is cheap but if the game is good all the naysayers will be there you can bet on that, maybe with a name change to protect themselves from people who will say i told you so.

I don't see what you think you're proving here, as I stated in the post that you quoted that I hope I come back. And no....I wont change my name.

I really, really hope I come back....but I just don't know. Oh, and trust me, those friends I mentioned aren't coming back. I have friends who will, but the guys I'm talking about are done.

I apologize having missed your saying you hope to be back. But there are many people who state that they will never move to GW2 and you just know that if the game is good they will play it. To make a carte blanche statement that you will never do something is just plain foolish.

The big issue here is that the situation just continues to deteriorate.

HB: Degenerate meta. Everything has to have a sin secondary for mobility.
TA: Degenerate meta. Rock, paper, scissors.
HA: Better than the others at the moment.
GvG: Degenerate meta. Izzy's vaunted new mechanics have now been exploited AGAIN.

We've reached the point where the two AT formats are completely unplayable. I appreciate breaking things and gaining a competitive advantage as much as the next guy, but every major team format except HA is a total disaster at the moment. RA is just as bad.

Stuff that's obviously OP needs to be fixed. Refuse to fix this stuff and people will leave. It's pretty simple.
